The monument to V. Kudirka was erected in 1928 near the Tauragė District Administration. Around 1968, the monument was demolished, but the bust (sculpted by J. Zikaras) was saved by the head of the cultural department, J. Šimkus. The pedestal was rebuilt in 1990 through the initiative of folk artist A. Bagdonas. The preserved bust of V. Kudirka was placed on the pedestal.
