Hillock of Juškaičiai
The Juškaičiai Mound and settlement, also known as Pilutės kalnas, rises in the Tauragė district, in the village of Juškaičiai, in the Skaudvilė eldership.
According to the inventory of Karšuva county, a nobleman named Stanislovas Juškevičius lived in this area. Due to his surname, the settlement acquired the name Juškaičiai village.
The Juškaičiai Mound is situated on a separate hill. The platform is oval-shaped and elongated. At the southern end, there used to be a mound, but now only a small mound remains. The northern corner of the mound is covered with gravel. Pilutė is not overgrown with trees, so it's enjoyable to climb and explore. Judging by its shapes, it can be speculated that the mound rose, and a wooden castle was built on it at the beginning of the second millennium. There is an ancient settlement at the foot of the mound. About 450 meters to the northeast is the Pabambiai Cemetery.
If the hill weren't so peculiar, it would likely have been entirely forgotten, just as its own history has been forgotten. Now, its extraordinary appearance alone surprises and frightens everyone. It resembles a gigantic tomb or crater. It is said that extraordinary objects are found around the hill: giant rings, ancient pottery shards with symbols, metal artifacts.
